In 1998 when only a handful of people had even heard of Girls on the Run©, when the "national headquarters" was a back bedroom in Molly Barker's home and reaching a few hundred girls a year seemed like an awesome goal, one company had the vision and the heart to step forward and support the fledgling organization. That company?  New Balance. They offered a whole range of supportive initiatives: expert consulting advice on what format the new organization should take, financial assistance to get the national office off to a good start, and everything from shoes to water bottles for the girls and those who coached them.

New Balance also offered the incalculable value of its fine reputation for quality and commitment to high ideals.  Unlike many athletic companies who pitch their products with billionaire superstars, New Balance  adheres to a unique "Endorsed By No One™"   philosophy. Instead of paying celebrities to tell you how great their products are, they invest in research, design, and domestic manufacturing and let their products speak for themselves.

By adhering to this philosophy, they are able to celebrate the true stars: every day athletes who choose New Balance footwear and apparel because they fit and because they perform. With this sort of corporate philosophy, New Balance is a true GOTR role model.

Girls on the Run International is proud to partner with the New Balance Foundation. The New Balance Foundation provides $100,000 in grant funding annually to Girls on the Run councils through its Capacity Building Grant and Scholarship Grant.Councils may submit grant requests of up to $7,500 and grants are awarded each October.

New Balance Foundation Capacity Building Grant

The Capacity Building grant provides councils the opportunity to further develop and expand their existing councils. These funds can be used for costs associated with adding new sites to a current territory.

New Balance Foundation Scholarship Grant

The Scholarship grant provides funds to councils expanding to underserved communities. These funds can be used for participant scholarships and costs associated with expanding into fragile communities. The New Balance Foundation and Girls on the Run strongly believe that all girls, regardless of socio-economic status should be able to participate in the Girls on the Run program.

We are grateful for the generous support of the New Balance Foundation.Questions? Please contact Ali Robinson at arobinson@girlsontherun.org.

In 2004 Kellogg's Frosted Flakes launched the Earn Your Stripes initiative.  The initiative is designed to encourage kids to eat right, work hard and always do their best with support from Tony the Tiger.  So, when Kellogg approached Molly Barker about a partnership in 2005, it was obvious to her that they shared common goals.  "We are very excited to be working with Kellogg to provide girls with a common message…to be strong, respect their bodies, and believe in themselves," said Girls on the Run founder Molly Barker.  "Thanks to Kellogg we will be able to provide our program to thousands of girls – girls who will exit our program not only feeling good about their bodies but also able to identify their own unique gifts and talents.  This kind of self-awareness will help them succeed in every part of their lives."

Women of all ages deserve to look and feel beautiful inside and out. That's why Goody Products, Inc. is dedicated to enhancing every woman's natural beauty by providing fashionable accessories and styling tools at affordable prices.

When Goody learned of the Girls on the Run and Team Tiara programs in 2005, they were excited about the perfect match. Goody had just launched Goody StayPut™, a new line of hair accessories for women and girls who are always on-the-go! The patent-pending Slip Proof Grip™ in every Goody StayPut accessory actually helps to hold hair in place, so women and girls look great while they are maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle.

"The synergies between our StayPut product and the GOTRI programs were evident, especially Team Tiara given the 'sporty' tiaras, which GOTRI refers to as an 'external symbol of the internal beauty we all possess.' We are thrilled to be partnering with an organization that shares Goody's values and commitment to helping young girls look and feel their best," says Jessica Miller, Vice President of Goody.

Goody is the National Sponsor of Team Tiara and a GOLD level sponsor of the GOTR 5K Race Series. The new Goody Girls StayPut collection will be sampled at all GOTR 5K's and Team Tiara events. Goody will also attend 13 GOTRI 5K series races with a fun Goody Girls StayPut booth, interactive games and Goody Girls StayPut prizes.

To further support the partnership, Goody will host an essay contest during the second 12-week program in the fall of 2006 and the Spring of 2007 called "Girls with Staying Power." The essay will ask girls to describe what it means to them to be a girl with staying power in today's world. A minimum of twenty girls will be selected to receive an all-expense paid trip to the Goody-sponsored "Girls on the Run Summer Camp" in the summer of 2007.
