Wondergirl Q&A: Amanda

10/08/2014 | Remarkable! People

Each year, we recognize a Girls on the Run alumna who is embracing joy, health and confidence in her life. Amanda Kappele is one of three Wondergirl Award winners from 2012.

Amanda attends the University of Missouri. She participated in Girls on the Run in Maple City, MI, when she was in the fifth grade. Now she keeps her GOTR connection strong by volunteering and coaching in Columbia, CO, whenever possible. Recently, we asked her to share some perspective on her Girls on the Run experience.

Q: What is your favorite memory of Girls on the Run?

Amanda: One day at practice, the girls on my team decided it would be fun to see if I could still walk while all of them clung to my arms and legs. We were unsuccessful, but I remember laughing so hard that my belly ached.

Q: What is the most valuable lesson you learned from Girls on the Run?

Amanda: All emotions are healthy. I often have to remind myself that it’s important to express my feelings openly, especially if something is bothering me. Don’t bottle up your feelings!

Q: How do you activate your limitless potential?

Amanda: I do activate my limitless potential by staying active and realizing when it’s time for a break. Sometimes I even combine both of these strategies by making sure to walk for at least 20 minutes on days when I’m really busy.

Q: Why do you want to stay involved with Girls on the Run today?

Amanda: Participating in Girls on the Run serves as a reminder to stay healthy, not only for the young girls who are enrolled, but for the coaches, as well! I keep the “Values of a Girl on the Run” worksheet on my fridge to stay in the GOTR mentality. I think that the curriculum is beneficial to any woman of any age, myself included.
