National Coach Ambassador Spotlight: Meet Haley!

By Asha Ellison on 02/27/2019 | 2019 National Coach Ambassadors

Meet "Happy Haley" Manus! Her super powers include: being a girl, a GOTR coach, an NCA, a physical health educator, student and chicken-and-dumplings connoisseur (seriously, she knows her stuff!)

Health is wealth, from the inside out!

Name: Haley Manus

Nickname: “HMANUS” or to my GOTR girls “Happy Haley”

Occupation: Undergraduate student studying Health and Physical Education

Location: Wingate, NC

Age: 19

Who inspires you?

My mother! She raised me by herself and taught me the importance of loving myself and believing in my limitlessness. She also showed me the importance of giving back to the community that I grew up in.

Where’s your favorite place in the world?

I have two favorite places in the world and they’re pretty much opposites. A quiet beach or a live concert, both of which are 100% better with the people I love.

If you could be any animal, which would you be?

A bird! I’d love to be able to travel and see the world without as many limits as humans have.

What’s the last book you read or who is your favorite musical artist?

Fittingly, the book I’m reading right now is "The Wisdom Stories" by Molly Barker (founder of GOTR). I have multiple favorite musicians, but if I had to choose one it would be John Mayer.

What are you most passionate about?

Inspiring people (specifically youth) to live physically active lifestyles. I, fortunately, get to share this with people every single day through my work with GOTR and at Wingate University’s Campus Recreation Center.

What’s your favorite movie?

I could never choose one. My boyfriend and I frequent the movies several times each month.

What’s your favorite way to give back to the community?

To work hands on and spend time in it. Just like we do with Girls on the Run, I think it’s important to work directly with the people of your community. I think we gain knowledge and have certain experiences so that we can use them to impact others.

What’s the coolest thing you’re working on right now?

I’m pursuing a degree that I am completely in love with! Every day is a new adventure, whether I’m in a school working with students or reading research. Health and Physical Education is an ever-changing field, but at the end of the day, the goal is to educate students on their health and teach them how to be active in ways that they love.

Who would you most like to swap places with for a day?

I can’t think of anyone. I’m so invested and intrigued by the life I’m living, every day is a new day to grow.

What’s the best meal you’ve ever had?

My grandmother's chicken and dumplings.

If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I’ve always dreamed of going to Australia!

What’s your hidden talent?

Not much of a talent, but last summer I became a certified USA Archery Instructor and taught girls ranging from ages 6-16.

If you were a crayon, what color would you be?

BRIGHT BLUE. Not sure why, but it just feels like me.

What is your quote to live by?

"Be as you appear, appear as you are."
