At Girls on the Run, we believe every girl deserves a chance to discover her limitless potential and soar to new heights. Similarly, every girl should grow up knowing that any career path is open to them. We’re proud to help nurture this mindset by helping girls build the confidence, courage, and skills to chase their dreams — wherever they lead. So when we received the opportunity to join United Airlines at the Orlando International Airport in celebrating Girls in Aviation Day – a worldwide event designed to educate, inspire, and spark joy by opening doors to careers in aviation – our excitement (and the GOTR girls who accompanied us) was sky-high!

This special visit wasn’t just centered on airplanes or the hustle and bustle of airports. By being welcomed into this space and learning more about the field, GOTR girls discovered they have the power to pursue big dreams, including those that launch them into the clouds.

Four Girls on the Run Councils Take Flight

Alongside our GOTRI team, our friends at United invited four Girls on the Run councils —Central Florida (Orlando), New Jersey East (Newark), San Diego, and Puget Sound (Seattle) —and girls from their teams to participate in the on-site event.

Girls experienced the wonder of aviation up close by:

  • Meeting women leaders in the field
  • Exploring behind-the-scenes at airports
  • Seeing firsthand the possibilities of a future in aviation

Girls were paired with female pilots for one-on-one conversations, hearing inspiring stories about their journeys to and through the skies.

The smiles, curiosity, and confidence shining through the day told the story best.

United and Girls on the Run: Shared Values in Action

United is committed to inspiring the next generation of aviators, and Girls in Aviation Day is one way they’re bringing that promise to life.

Just as Girls on the Run builds confidence and resilience through joyful movement, United is helping girls see that their potential extends to industries where women have historically faced barriers. Together, we are showing girls that they belong in any career path they set their sights on.

Why Partnerships That Inspire Matter

When partners like United invest in experiences that open girls’ eyes to new possibilities, they amplify the lessons girls learn at Girls on the Run. Upon participating in the program, girls build confidence and create tangible skills that help prepare them for limitless career paths later in life.

Partners like United make it possible for Girls on the Run to reach more girls and open more doors. Thank you, United, for helping us show girls that careers in the skies, like the GOTR 5K finish line, are just the beginning.

Soaring into the Future with Confidence

For many participants, the Girls in Aviation Day visit wasn’t just a fun outing – it was a spark, a reminder that they are capable of anything they set their minds to.

Whether they pursue aviation or another interest, the day showed girls that they can break barriers in any industry and that no role is off-limits.

We are deeply grateful to United for their partnership and for believing in the power of girls. Together, we’re inspiring the next generation to keep their heads up, look to the skies, and boldly pursue their dreams.
